Do cheats disable achievements in Plants vs. Zombies?
The wiki ties one achievement to the codes: typing mustache or moustache unlocks Ask Me About Mustache Mode, described as Enable Mustache Mode. It calls these the only codes with their own achievement. Neither source says any code blocks achievements. Plants vs. Zombies Wiki: Codes
Compatibility notes
Which releases these codes apply to, and where one behaves differently. Each note links to the source that documents it.
- Xbox 360 and PS3 The wiki says the console versions need an enter-cheat-code menu first: press LB, RB, LT, RT on Xbox Live Arcade, or L1, R1, L2, R2 on PS3. All the original codes work in both. Plants vs. Zombies Wiki: Codes
- PS Vita According to the wiki, the Vita takes codes through a flower with a question mark that appears on the home screen once you buy the Tree of Wisdom. Unlike other versions, it doesn't need the tree grown to 1,000 feet to unlock every code. Plants vs. Zombies Wiki: Codes
- DS, iPhone and Android The wiki says the Nintendo DS, iPhone and Android versions don't appear to have any codes. For DS it points to Action Replay instead, and only on the DSi version. Plants vs. Zombies Wiki: Codes
- Before the Tree of Wisdom The wiki marks future, mustache, trickedout and sukhbir as usable even before you buy the Tree of Wisdom. Daisies, dance and pinata need the tree at 100, 500 and 1,000 feet. Plants vs. Zombies Wiki: Codes
- Tree of Wisdom too short The wiki shows a message that pops up when you type daisies, dance or pinata before the tree is tall enough, so the code is refused rather than silently ignored. It also notes a rare PS Vita glitch where dance works before the tree reaches 500 feet. Plants vs. Zombies Wiki: Codes
What the codes mean
- sukhbir Named after Sukhbir Sidhu, a studio director at PopCap when the game came out. The zombies' call becomes "Sukhbir, brains!"
- ↑↑↓↓←→←→BA A take on the famous Konami code. Crazy Dave starts saying it before level 5-10 but never finishes
- trickedout The only code that changes something other than the zombies: it restyles the Lawn Mower
FAQ
Is there a money or sun cheat in Plants vs. Zombies?
No. None of the built-in codes add sun, coins or plants. They only change how zombies look or sound.
How do you enter cheats in Plants vs. Zombies?
Type the code on your keyboard during any level. You don't need to click a text box or press Enter.
Why doesn't the dance or pinata code work for me?
Those codes, along with daisies, need a Tree of Wisdom grown to a set height (100 feet for daisies, 500 for dance, 1,000 for pinata) before they'll activate.
Do Plants vs. Zombies cheats work on mobile or DS?
No. The typed codes only work on the PC and Mac versions.
How do you turn a Plants vs. Zombies cheat off?
Type the same code again while playing to switch it back off.
Why are there so few Plants vs. Zombies cheats here?
The game only has these few typed codes, and none of them touch sun, coins or plants. Trainers, Cheat Engine tables and save edits that change sun or the Tree of Wisdom do circulate, but they are outside tools, not cheats built into the game, so this page leaves them out.
