Compatibility notes
Which releases these codes apply to, and where one behaves differently. Each note links to the source that documents it.
- Multiplayer and skill 5 The Doom Wiki says every code is switched off in multiplayer games and on the Black Plague Possesses Thee skill level, with RAVMAP the only exception. Doom Wiki (Fandom): Heretic cheat codes
- Shareware version The Doom Wiki says RAMBO gives 100 armor in the shareware release and 200 in the registered game, and that the Mystic Urn and Chaos Device from GIMME are missing from shareware. Doom Wiki (Fandom): Heretic cheat codes
- GIMME letter d CheatBook marks the d item for GIMME as not working, while the Doom Wiki lists d as the Mystic Urn, so this page leaves d out of the item list. CheatBook: Heretic cheat codes
- Heretic + Hexen (2025) Magic Game World lists a cheat menu switch and renamed codes for the remaster, such as gunsgunsguns for weapons and keys, healthyself for health and whipit for artifacts, next to QUICKEN and KITTY. It does not list RAMBO, GIMME or ENGAGE, so those are covered here for the classic release only. Magic Game World: Heretic + Hexen Collection cheats and console commands
What the codes mean
- IDDQD Doom's god mode code. The Doom Wiki says Heretic's developers made it kill you as a joke, with the message: Trying to cheat, eh? Now you die!
- IDKFA Doom's all-keys, armor and ammo code. In Heretic it does the opposite and strips your weapons and ammo except the staff, with the message: Cheater - you don't deserve weapons!
