How to enter cheats in Oblivion
PC
- Load your game and press ~ (near 1 and Esc).
- Click an object or character if the command needs a target, or start the command with player.
- Type the command, for example player.additem F 1000, and press Enter.
- Press ~ again to close the console.
How to enable developer mode in Oblivion
- Open the oblivion.ini file of the original game.
- Find the [Interface] section.
- Make sure it has the line bAllowConsole=1; add it below [Interface] if it is missing.
- Save the file, start the game and press ~.
Do cheats disable achievements in Oblivion?
In Oblivion Remastered, UESP says using any console command disables achievements on the current save file. esports.gg reports a wider effect, across all your saves, so if achievements matter, keep them on a save where you never open the console. UESP: Oblivion:Console
Compatibility notes
Which releases these codes apply to, and where one behaves differently. Each note links to the source that documents it.
- Oblivion Remastered (2025) UESP says the remaster replaces the old console with the Unreal Engine 5 console, which still accepts most of the original commands. You can prefix one with obvConsole, as in obvConsole tgm, to make sure it is read as an Oblivion command. UESP: Oblivion:Console
- Remastered: changed commands UESP lists tcl, tfc and tm as not working in the remaster; it gives ghost and walk for collision, ToggleDebugCamera for the free camera and ToggleHUDVisibility for the HUD. setstage works but first needs Altar.Cheat.AllowSetStage true. UESP: Oblivion:Console
- Achievements (Remastered) UESP says any console command disables achievements on the current save. esports.gg reports that it affects all your save files, so keep a clean save if you care about them. UESP: Oblivion:Console
- Original game (2006) UESP says the console needs bAllowConsole set to 1 in oblivion.ini, under [Interface], and that it is PC only: it cannot be used on Xbox or PlayStation. UESP: Oblivion:Console
