How to enter cheats in Skyrim

PC

  1. Create a manual save first.
  2. Press the tilde (~) key to open the console (the key below Escape on other keyboard layouts). Commands are not case-sensitive.
  3. For a command that acts on something — unlock, resurrect, kill, disable, setessential — click the NPC, door or object while the console is open. Its RefID appears at the top of the console, and the command now applies to it. Use the mouse wheel to cycle through objects stacked on top of each other, or select one without clicking using prid with its RefID.
  4. For a command that acts on you, put player. in front of it, as in player.additem f 100.
  5. Type the command and press Enter, then press the same key again to close the console.

Do cheats disable achievements in Skyrim?

Using the console does not switch achievements off in Skyrim. UESP documents the opposite in places: caqs and saq can unlock some quest-related Steam achievements, and the AddAchievement and ClearAchievement commands do nothing in release builds. Nothing in its console documentation describes a cheat flag that blocks them for the save or the session. UESP: Skyrim console commands

FAQ

How do you open the console in Skyrim?

Press the tilde (~) key, or the key below Escape on other keyboard layouts. Type a command, press Enter, and press the key again to close the console. Commands are not case-sensitive.

How do you target an NPC or a door with a console command?

Open the console and click the NPC, door or object. Its RefID appears at the top of the console and commands like unlock, resurrect and setessential then apply to it. The mouse wheel cycles through objects on top of each other, and prid with its RefID selects one without clicking.

How do you find an item ID?

Type help followed by part of the name — help "ancient nord" — and the console returns the IDs of everything matching. Put a multi-word name in quotes. Then use player.additem with the item ID and a count.

Do console commands disable achievements in Skyrim?

UESP documents the opposite in places: caqs and saq can unlock some quest-related Steam achievements, and the AddAchievement and ClearAchievement commands do nothing in release builds.

What is the difference between tgm and tim?

tgm is god mode: no damage, no magicka or stamina cost and no encumbrance, though scripted damage and disease still apply. tim is immortal mode: you still take damage, but you cannot die at zero health.

Can console commands break a save?

They can. UESP flags caqs, qqq and psb as commands that may crash the game, and notes that fast travelling with timescale at 0 can stop a save loading. Keep a separate manual save before using them.
